WESTABOU MONTESSORI SCHOOL

Our lower elementary classroom, the Lavender class, is a mixed-age classroom of 6-9 year olds in 1st-3rd grades. Students in lower elementary are working with concrete materials in every subject. This hands-on approach to learning leads to a deep understanding of abstract concepts like algebra in later years. A key feature of this program is "Going Out," which is a program in which children leave school to go on research trips that they plan in the community, such as visiting a university class or the zoo. Goings Out teaches children to be independent and self-motivated learners who are deeply involved in their communities.
